How to Gift a Kindle E-book

An e-book can make a lovely, thoughtful gift. No running to the store, no shipping, no wrapping paper. Easy-peasy and earth-friendly for any gift-giving occasion!

If the intended recipient of your gift owns a reading device such as a kindle or a tablet, phone or other device with the kindle app, you are in-luck! It’s pretty easy to give someone a kindle e-book.

Here is what you’ll need:

  • The intended recipient’s email address
  • The link to the kindle e-book you wish to gift

Bonus points if you have access to a printer! You can print a little something to tuck into a card (see the end of this blog post).

Gifting a Kindle

Here are the steps to give your kindle e-book (as of 5/6/23). Note that you cannot purchase an e-book using the App. You must go to the website.

  1. Open Amazon and navigate to the book you wish to give.
  2. Click on Buy for others.

  3. On the next screen, choose the delivery method.
  4. Enter the following information:
    • the recipient’s email address.
    • your name.
    • a message.

  5. Select the Delivery Date.
  6. Click on Place Order.

Voila! You just gifted someone an e-book!

If you put in the wrong email address, that can be fixed too!

Fixing a Wrong Address for a Kindle Gift

  1. On the Amazon website, click on the Accounts & List menu and select Content & Devices.Navigate to Conten & Devices
  2. The Digital Content page will display various options.

  3. Click on Gifts to see a list of e-books which you have gifted or received.
  4. Make any necessary changes.

There are so many occasions where it is appropriate to give an e-book. Here’s a smattering (haha!):
Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, Grandparent’s Day, Graduation, Retirement, Birthday, Christening or Baptism, Confirmtation, First Communion, Promotion, Holiday, Christmas, Easter, Anniversary, Wedding, Birth, Halloween, Housewarming, Hostess, Baby Shower, New Baby, Bridal Shower, Adoption, Thank You, Valentine’s Day, Engagement, Sympathy, Get Well, Appreciation Days, or any old time because you feel like it!
